Metal silicon, also known as industrial silicon, is a product smelted from silica and carbonaceous reducing agents in submerged arc furnaces. The main component silicon content is usually above 98.5% and below 99.99%. The remaining impurities are iron, aluminum, calcium, etc. . In China, metal silicon is usually divided into different grades such as 553, 441, 421, 3303, 2202, and 1101 based on the content of iron, aluminum, and calcium in metal silicon.

Application of Silicon Metal

Iron and steel industry: Metal silicon is widely used in smelting ferrosilicon alloys, and is also a reducing agent for smelting various metals. Metal silicon can replace aluminum in the steelmaking process, improve the efficiency of deoxidizer, purify molten steel, and improve the quality of steel.

Aluminum alloys: Silicon is also a good ingredient in aluminum alloys, and most cast aluminum alloys contain silicon.

Electronics industry: Metal silicon is the raw material of ultra-pure silicon in the electronics industry. Electronic devices made of semiconductor silicon have the advantages of small size, light weight, good reliability, and long life.

Chemical industry: metal silicon is used to produce silicone rubber, silicone resin, silicone oil, etc. Silicone rubber has good elasticity and is used in the manufacture of medical supplies and gaskets. In 2020, China's silicon metal production ranks first in the world, accounting for about 69.3%; followed by Brazil and Norway, accounting for 7.3% and 6.6% of production respectively.
