In silicon manganese nitride, the mass fraction of manganese is 40%-50%, forming high-melting-point MnS with sulfur, which to some extent mitigates the harmful effects of sulfur. Manganese exhibits excellent deoxidation ability, combining with FeO in the steel to form MnO, thereby improving steel quality, especially reducing brittleness and enhancing strength and hardness. Therefore, manganese is a beneficial element in steel. In high-quality carbon structural steel, the normal manganese content ranges from 0.5% to 0.8%, while in high-manganese structural steel, it can reach up to 0.7% to 1.2%.

The nitrogen content in silicon manganese nitride typically ranges from 12% to 32%. It serves as a new type of steel refining alloy additive, producing high-nitrogen steel, special alloy steel, and stainless steel alloys. Nitrogen is uniformly added to the steel liquid, forming compounds such as nitrogen carbon in the grain boundaries during rolling, playing a role in refinement, strengthening, and solid solution strengthening, significantly increasing the yield strength and tensile strength of steel, ensuring no decrease in plasticity and toughness while guaranteeing usability, thereby playing an essential role in smelting high-value-added steel grades.
